Here is a kind of best of about Commissions (what else ? :D). I contacted some Artists and proposed them to tell me :

They cost $14 USD each, the client will recieve a 300 dpi. copy on their e-mail. The final piece is about 15 x 15 cm. if the commissioner would like to print it.
The commissioner can chose his/her favourite color scheme (shades of grey, blue, green, sepia, etc)
In case two portraits are ordered there will be a special discount. $22 instead of $28 for the two of them.

A commission is a COMMERCIAL act: when you take clients and collect money, please treat them properly and respect them.

:bulletpurple: DEADLINE
The tolerance of waiting for a client just like the speed work (or not) of an artist varies from person to person. If an artist is not able to process correctly with a commission, so he must take it later. On my side, after some abuses, I refuse to wait more than 5 months a commission paid in advance.

:bulletpurple: PAYMENT
Ideally, the artist asks payment when starting the commission, so the client does not feel like being taken hostage.

:bulletpurple: UPLOADING
A commission should be online after it has been approved by the client. It is easy to understand that the client wants to discover his commission before anyone else, especially if (minor) changes are requested at this time. Also, be nice to tell your client if you decide to remove his commission of your gallery: it is never pleasant for a client to search his commission only to find that the artist removed without saying anything.

:bulletpurple: CANCELLATION
Think about the basics of etiquette: a check returned due to a canceled commission deserves some words or, if necessary, apologies. Cancelling a commission deserves an answer, just to know that the message got through. A reasonable change request to a particular step of the commission must be considered with a smile, otherwise do no commissions.

:bulletpurple: PROPERTY
Some artists reserve the right to use and resell a commission : on my opinion, a commission is up 50% to 50% of the artist and the client, it would be respectful to the artist to ask permission from his client before use the commission and vice-versa. I found that often, artists have more rights on commissions than clients...

:bulletpurple: ADVERTISING
Avoid to contact potential clients by Note or otherwise; in general most prefer to choose for themselves the artists they like. Many resent being "harassed" and your efforts will certainly have the opposite effect to that desired.

:bulletpurple: COMMUNICATION
Never forget a very important thing : do not hesitate to communicate ! Especially if you are late for some reasons. Your client needs to be informed when something goes wrong.

:bulletpurple: CONCLUSION
Put yourself in the client's shoes and imagine how you would feel if you commission an artist that does not respect you !

Une commission est un acte COMMERCIAL : lorsqu’on s'engage à prendre des clients et à encaisser de l'argent, on traite correctement ses clients, on les respecte.

:bulletblue: DELAI
Le seuil de tolérance d’attente d’un client tout comme la rapidité (ou non) d’un artiste varient d’une personne à l’autre. Si un artiste n’est pas capable de traiter dans un délai correct une commission, alors qu’il la prenne plus tard. Pour ma part, suite à des abus, je refuse d’attendre plus de 5 mois une commission payée à l’avance.

:bulletblue: PAIEMENT
L’idéal est que l’artiste demande le paiement lorsqu’il commence la commission, ainsi le client n’a pas l’impression d’être pris en otage.

:bulletblue: MISE EN LIGNE
Une commission ne devrait être mise en ligne que lorsqu’elle a été validée par le client. Il est normal qu’il la découvre avant tout le monde, d’autant que des modifications (mineures) peuvent encore être demandées à ce stade. Par ailleurs, soyez sympa de prévenir votre client si vous décidez de supprimer sa commission de votre galerie : il n’est jamais agréable pour un client de chercher sa commission pour finalement constater que l’artiste l'a supprimée sans rien dire.

:bulletblue: ANNULATION
Pensez aux basiques du savoir-vivre : un chèque retourné suite à une commission annulée mérite un petit mot d’accompagnement, voire des excuses si cela est justifié. Une annulation de commission mérite une réponse, histoire de savoir que le message est passé. Une demande raisonnable de modification à telle ou telle étape du dessin doit être prise en compte avec le sourire, sinon ne faites pas de commissions.

:bulletblue: PROPRIETE
Certains artistes se réservent le droit d’utiliser et de revendre une commission : pour moi, une commission appartient 50% à l’artiste et 50% au client, il serait donc respectueux que l’artiste demande la permission à son client avant d‘utiliser la commission, et vice-versa. J’ai constaté que souvent, les artistes ont plus de droits sur les commissions que les clients…

:bulletblue: PUBLICITE
Evitez de démarcher les clients potentiels par Note ou autre, en général la plupart préfèrent choisir eux-mêmes les artistes qui leur plaisent. Beaucoup n’apprécient pas d’être « harcelés » et votre démarche aura certainement l’effet inverse de celui souhaité.

:bulletblue: COMMUNICATION
N'oubliez jamais l'importance de la communication, par exemple si vous avez pris du retard pour une quelconque raison. Votre client a besoin d'être rassuré lorsque les choses ne vont pas comme il faudrait.

:bulletblue: CONCLUSION
Mettez-vous à la place du client et imaginez ce que vous ressentiriez si l’artiste que vous commissionnez ne vous respectait pas !

Go straight to the point: be specific and concise in your description. Needless to explain all the life of your OC, the artist does not have time to read everything or study. A few words summarizing the personality of your OC will be much more useful, as reference images. If you want a precise facial expression, please tell it. If you have in mind an accurate scene, give a sketch rather than a long speech: the experience showed me that the artist may interpret differently than you your vision. Optionally, make a web page or a detailed Character Sheet that will be useful to artists if you buy often commissions.

:bulletpurple: STEPS
I suggest you ask to see at least the rough / sketch to verify that the artist has understood your request. Ideally, each step of a commission shall be approved to move to the next. It happens that some artists do not show any step even if you claim: it is their choice, do with it.

:bulletpurple: DEADLINE
Same as in the Artist section. This period varies among people, it is up to you to judge how long you can wait for a commission paid in advance. I have seen artists apologize for 2 days late, and others take a year and a half or longer to make a simple drawing. On my side, beyond 5 months, I cancel the commission.

:bulletpurple: PAYMENT
Do not look for 10,000 incredible excuses to postpone payment. Order a commission only if you are able to pay without question under the conditions required, thus avoiding wasting his time with the artist.

:bulletpurple: CANCELLATION
Do not even think to cancel when the artist began work, he does not work for free, so respect and consider his valuable time (like yours).

Same as in the Artist section. Your OC do not belong to the artist who drew them.

Allez droit au but : soyez précis et concis dans votre description. Inutile de raconter la vie de votre OC, l’artiste n’a pas le temps de tout lire ou étudier. Quelques mots résumant le caractère de votre OC seront bien plus utiles ainsi que des images de référence. Si vous voulez une expression faciale précise, soyez... précis. Si vous avez en tête une pose précise, donnez un schéma plutôt qu’un long discours : l’expérience m’a montré que l’artiste pourra interpréter différemment de vous votre vision. Eventuellement, préparez une page Web ou une Character Sheet détaillée qui serviront aux artistes si vous passez souvent des commissions.

:bulletblue: ETAPES
Je vous conseille de demander à voir au moins le rough/sketch pour vérifier que l’artiste a bien compris votre demande. Dans l’idéal, chaque étape d’un dessin doit être approuvée pour passer à la suivante. Il arrive que certains artistes ne montrent aucune étape même si vous les réclamez : c’est leur choix, il faudra faire avec.

:bulletblue: DELAI
Même chose que pour la section Artistes. Ce délai varie selon les personnes, à vous de juger combien de temps vous pouvez attendre une commission payée à l’avance. J’ai vu des artistes s’excuser pour 2 jours de retard, et d’autres prendre un an et demi, voire plus, pour faire un simple dessin. Pour ma part, j’annule au-delà de 5 mois d’attente.

:bulletblue: PAIEMENT
Ne cherchez pas 10 000 excuses incroyables pour différer le paiement : ne vous engagez dans une commission que si vous êtes capable de payer sans discuter selon les conditions requises, ce qui évitera de faire perdre son temps à l’artiste.

Ne pensez même pas à annuler lorsque l’artiste a commencé le travail, il ne travaille pas gratuitement, donc respectez son temps qui est précieux (tout comme le vôtre).

:bulletpurple: Hello ! I am a self-taught digital artist specializing in semi-realistic to realistic fantasy artwork and character illustration.
In previous years, I have tried to advertise commissions with little success. So for a long time I didn't push commissions and worked on my art. I recently decided to re-open commissions now that I have developed my skills and I think I am experienced enough to give clients a truly beautiful work of art. It is hard to get commissioners since I am not a very well known artist, but I hope now to be able to expand my portfolio and start taking more commissions !
I work hard on every piece to make it the best possible. I love fantasy themes, interesting characters and unique clothes. I also like to draw horses and other hoofed animals. And I'm fond of dramatic lighting ! I mostly enjoy working in a painterly style with realistic characters, but I am very flexible and I can adapt to a client needs !
And finally, I'm very grateful to #Dream-Commissions and Feliane for introducing this new section and allowing me to be the first artist featured !
I hope you enjoy my work !

:bulletblue: Bonjour ! Je suis une artiste autodidacte, spécialisée en digital style semi-réaliste, fantasy réaliste et personnages.
Dans le passé, j’ai tenté de me lancer dans les commissions, avec peu de succès. Cela m’a dissuadée de poursuivre sur cette voie. Mais j’ai décidé récemment d’ouvrir à nouveau des commissions parce que ma technique artistique a évolué suffisamment pour que je puisse satisfaire mes clients. C’est difficile pour moi de trouver des clients car je ne suis pas connue mais j’espère néanmoins agrandir mon portfolio et commencer à faire des commissions.
Je travaille dur sur chaque dessin et je donne le meilleur de moi-même. J’aime les thèmes Fantasy, les OC intéressants et les vêtements qui sortent de l’ordinaire. J’aime également dessiner les chevaux et autres animaux ongulés. J’adore aussi les effets de lumière dramatiques ! J’apprécie énormément de peindre des personnages réalistes mais je suis flexible et je m’adapte aux choix de mes clients.
Et pour conclure, je suis très reconnaissante à Dream-Commissions et à Féliane de démarrer cette nouvelle section avec moi !

:star:*KuriosiT-kat Women (though I love couples too) and children. Really cute and innocent scenes!

:star:*Amaethil A beautiful half-body woman with pretty dress. And very good detailed reference or description for cloth, jewel and hair. And having liberty for the pose.

:star:*mariposa-nocturna A strong scene, very emotional and with beautiful clothes XD I looove to draw something that has a deep meaning (and clothes XD).

:star:*Evi-san A romantic scene! Very sensual with beautiful characters. ^^
